While our clinic has a relaxed, home-like feel, it’s also equipped with advanced technology that allows us to provide the highest-quality, most up-to-date veterinary care. Every detail of the hospital was intentionally chosen with our patients in mind. From recovery spaces for post-surgical comfort to a layout designed to reduce stress, noise, and anxiety. We’ve even set up a station for coffee and pup cups!
We’re confident your pet will feel right at home.

and Dr. Back.
Drs. Wynn and Back have been working together since 2016, building not only a strong professional partnership but a shared vision for the kind of veterinary care they wanted to provide. As equal partners, they’ve shaped Hamburg Oaks together – from the first sketches to the day the doors opened.

Growing up around my grandfather’s small horse farm in southeastern Kentucky, being around animals has always been a huge part of my life. I’m proud to be from Appalachia and am grateful for my early beginnings which led to an incredibly fulfilling career.
I’m a proud Wildcat and 2008 graduate of the University of Kentucky, and had an amazing veterinary education at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine where I graduated in 2012.
Early in my career I practiced in a rural part of Eastern Kentucky at a mixed animal practice which gave me great experience, but ultimately our family landed in Lexington where I’ve been blessed to work with amazing veterinarians and staff in both ER and general practice settings. Founding Hamburg Oaks Veterinary Clinic has always been my dream, and I’m so grateful to continue to care for the pets of Lexington and their families which I’ve been doing since we moved here in 2013. I met Kristen back early in my career here in Lexington and it’s such an honor to do this alongside her all these years later!
I have a special interest in small animal dentistry. I have completed advanced dental training through the Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore, MD as well as additional specialty dental lecture and wet lab experience through the annual American Veterinary Dental Forum.
Outside of the office, I love spending time with my husband Derrick, and our two sons Asher and Liam who keep us very active. I enjoy watching my kids’ sports, cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, reading, and spending time with friends and family. I also love to have girl time walking our two dogs Ellie (our Golden Retriever) and Maple (our doodle mix).

Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian. My love for animals started early, and over time I discovered an equal passion for the medical side. When I graduated from veterinary school, my mom framed a childhood drawing I had made of this very dream, something that still reminds me every day how lucky I am to be living it. (see the picture below).
I grew up in Versailles, Kentucky, where I met my husband, Joseph, in high school, and we’ve been together ever since. I went on to attend the University of Kentucky, earning my degree in Animal Sciences, before pursuing my veterinary degree at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduation, I spent several years working in a fast-paced small animal clinic in Lexington. Eventually, I had the incredible opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream, co-founding my own veterinary hospital alongside Dr. Wynn.
I have a special passion for soft tissue surgery and for teaching. I truly enjoy educating our staff and nursing team, connecting with pet owners, and hopefully inspiring the next generation of veterinarians—just like I was inspired at a young age.
Outside of work, I love staying active. I’ve completed three marathons and enjoy running, swimming, biking, and hiking with my two dogs, Tucker and Brady.

“Over the years, we discovered a shared goal: to create a practice of our own — one built intentionally from the ground up, shaped by our values, our experiences, and our ideas of what a veterinary clinic could be.”
What began as conversations and sketches gradually turned into a plan.
Today, Hamburg Oaks Veterinary Clinic stands as the result of that shared
dream thoughtfully created to provide exceptional care in a space
that reflects our passion for both pets and the people who love them.
